Here are some Suggestions for Outreach Actions
Public Meetings
You can get a group started in your area by hosting a meeting inviting the public to get to know Barack and to discuss our
concerns and hopes. Advertise in the local papers and put out flyers. Some papers do press releases for free. Have it at a library,
coffee shop, community college, etc. Try to arrange the room with round tables of 4 people each, in a circle (the optimal way).
Start by giving everyone there 3 sentences to say who they are, where they're from and why they are there. You can have an open
discussion, show videos of speechs, etc. and also provide materials
(position papers,
bumper stickers, etc.). Be sure to have
signup sheets and get as much good information as possible (name, address including county, phone, email and if they wish to
join the group). You will find people who are ready with ideas and energy to join you in your efforts. These names can then go into
our State Database as these people become supporters. Be sure to include everyone in the conversation by limiting the time people
have to speak (they can always have another turn). Also, try to have everyone leave invigorated and with something to do. Close by going
around and having people share how they felt the meeting went and how it might be better.
House Parties
Another way to start in your community is to invite friends into your home to share their concerns and learn more about Barack.
You can have a pot luck or just snacks, videos and whatever else you want.
Find position papers to print
from the Obama Campaign Site and be sure to listen to and include everyone. Also, be sure to have signup sheets and get as much
good information as possible (name, address including county, phone, email and if they wish to join the group). These names can
then go into our State Database as these people become supporters. Use the same techniques of getting to know everyone, being
inclusive and getting feedback at the end (as above).
Letters:
You can have letter writing parties and write the people who came to your events that haven't yet decided to join our efforts.
You can get the addresses of voters in your county by going to the county clerks office. Handwritten letters can be sent to these
folks, asking them to join our campaign and our groups. People appreciate the handwritten letter and consider helping out even more.
We also can send letters to the editors of the Press throughout the State.
Canvassing:
Going door to door and talking with people builds relationships and we become the face of the Obama Campaign. Now is the time to listen to and talk with
our neighbors about our lives and Barack. Give them literature if you want or tell them your personal story. Document supporters, undecided voters,
and non-supporters. Get as much volunteer information from supporters who are willing to help as you can. Also, if homes contain non-registered voters,
be sure to have some voter registration cards on hand and register them properly. Now is the time to reach out to people!
Here's a short email Rebecca Kiger shared with us at the State Meeting: Be more resolved than ever!
We'll keep everyone posted regarding more walk lists from the National Campaign. There is still time to register voters so they can vote in November!
Participate in the County Democratic Parties:
We can all get involved with our County Democratic Parties to unite and work together for the general election. Go to meetings, events, etc. and
help staff offices. We should have poll workers to help with the elections and keep the process working properly. Anyone having any conflict between
their County Democratic Party and Obama grassroots folks please contact Lyle Sattes (304-343-1252) or email:

Anyone who has additions and/or corrections to this information, please email phil@wv4obama.com.
